Today is International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day. A day Medical Laboratory professionals the world over, set aside to promote our profession and take stock of our roles in quality health services. Let me use the opportunity of today to call on all Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria to mark the day in line with the guidelines set by the IFBLS. Take time out to ask yourselves relevant questions that border on quality health laboratory services, have you placed the patient safety and interest first?

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) received with sadness and shock, the unfortunate news of the collapse of a church building in Uyo- Akwa Ibom State with several lives reported to have been lost and many others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

PROTOCOLS

BACKGROUND: In November, 2010, Niger State had the privilege of hosting the 177th NEC meeting of our Association. That was under the leadership of the then hard working, reliable and astute Medical Lab Scientist Mr Isiaka Olawepo Ganiyu as the then branch chairman. I was the National Secretary of our Association then. Going through the memory lane, the hosting of that NEC meeting by Niger state branch of our association, was extraordinarily successful! It was therefore, not surprising that this time around, the national body of AMLSN did not only approve the hosting of the 189th NEC meeting, it also graciously permit the branch to host both the Public health Lecture and the NEC meeting.
